I might be an app addict…but I’ve found so many amazing ones that have helped me in so many ways! We have a shopping list app, a to-do list app, even my side hustle is an app (see last post). Almost all of these apps can be shared with your household, which makes organizing your life a breeze. And they’re all free!
So, naturally, as we began decorating and revamping our new apartment, I began to hunt for awesome apps for decorating. I will say I am slightly disappointed. I wasn’t able to find very many, but I did find 3 that I think really knock it out of the park. Enjoy!
Also, small disclaimer, these apps are all from the US App Store. If I have a lot of interest, I’d be willing to explore German Apps – just leave a comment below! Also, this post is not sponsored, these are just apps I really love!
This app was a huge surprise to me. Havenly is an online interior design service that you can use to redecorate your home. First, you take a style quiz to determine what you’re looking for. Based on that quiz, you’ll be recommended a package and a designer, although you ultimately get to choose exactly who and what you’re looking for. The design packages are also very affordable. $79 for a mini design – final touches, or a room refresh, and $199 for a full design of a room. They work within your budget and you can shop directly through the site/app, making it really easy.
The BEST part of this app though is you can chat with a designer FOR FREE!! Obviously you can’t ask them to design your whole room for free, but if you have a quick question this is perfect!
I decided to test it out and asked a question about our guest room/office. We’ve been thinking about painting one wall a deep green, but it’s a long skinny room. I wasn’t sure if an accent wall would throw off the rest of the room. I posed the question to a Havenly designer, along with sending some terrible photos of the room and was thoroughly impressed!
The designer loved our green wall idea, sent some beautiful paint swatches and advised me on the rest of the walls. She recommended adding shelves above our couch to break up the green and doing a gallery wall on the opposite side to balance it out. This was such great advice, and I now feel much more confident moving forward with our idea.
Even better – you can ask more than one question! Every time I log onto the website or app, it asks if I have another design quickie. Overall, a really impressive service and if I still lived in the the US, I would definitely consider using their full services to finish up a room.
Speaking of painting walls, this is another fun app to experiment with. If you’re curious to see what a color would look like in a room, this app is perfect! With this app, you can choose a photo to add paint color to, OR you can use Instant Paint which allows you to paint live!
Essentially, it accesses your phone’s camera and then you can browse paint colors and try them on the wall. It’s not perfect and won’t look exactly like a beautifully painted wall, but you’ll get a really good idea of how the color would look in the space. I was really surprised at how some of the colors I tried looked so different on the wall!
You can also match colors from photos or pins you’ve saved . There’s even a paint calculator to determine how much paint you’d need for a project!
I tried several apps to test out colors on our walls, and while none of them are perfect, this one was a favorite. I will say, if you’re looking for accent walls, this app is not the best as it tends to color the entire space. Still, I liked that the paint colors are real, and it gives you the idea.
Finally, a very simple but necessary and amazing app. By far, the tool I use most when working on our apartment is a tape measure. Failing to properly measure things has caused too many problems in the past, and I’ve learned my lesson. I pretty much won’t buy anything these days without measuring it and the space first. I even go as far as measuring storage boxes and shelves to make sure things will fit.
While I do sometimes carry my little pink tape measure out shopping with me, there have been so many occasions when I’ve popped into a store and found something amazing, only to be left wondering if it would fit in a space. No more!
The Measured app by Lowe’s fixes that problem. It uses your phone’s camera to magically measure pretty much anything you can think of. You simply point the dot where you want to start, tap, move to where you want to end and tap again. Ta-da! Now you have you measurement!
This app is the perfect thing to have on your phone if you’re out and about and need to measure something. The biggest downside is that you can’t save measurements anywhere, but you can always screenshot it to save something.
So there you go: my top 3 apps I use for decorating! I’m sure I’ll have some more in the future. Let me know if there are any amazing ones I’ve missed in the comments below!
